The Brand
At Nélané Jewellery, what sets us apart is the deeply personal and customizable nature of every piece we create. Each design reflects the brand’s contemporary essence, while also being a true celebration of the individuality of the wearer. Our focus is on designing with the client, a hands-on process that begins with personal meetings, sharing design concepts, and continues with open updates as each piece is carefully handcrafted.
This collaborative journey ensures that the final creation feels both authentically Nélané and uniquely theirs. At the heart of our values is communication and honesty; we are transparent about our capabilities and committed to crafting with integrity. Above all, we create from a place of passion — and knowing that our work becomes part of someone’s everyday life or cherished moments is, to us, the truest form of success.
The Designer
From a young age, jewellery has always held a special place in my life. I can still remember taking out my mother’s jewellery box at least once a month to put on little fashion shows, and to this day I remain deeply sentimental about the heirlooms passed down from my grandmother and great-grandmother. Their pieces taught me that jewellery is more than adornment — it carries stories, memories, and identity.
When I was about eight years old, that fascination turned into creation. I would spend hours in bead shops choosing supplies and making my own small pieces of jewellery. Some I gave to family members, while others I proudly sold just outside our house to neighbourhood children who wanted to gift something special to their loved ones.
My path into jewellery wasn’t entirely straightforward, though. I initially enrolled in a BSc Viticulture degree, but within the first six months I realised my heart wasn’t in it. Around that same time, I accompanied my mother to a jeweller to have her wedding ring serviced. The jeweller invited me into the workshop — what we fondly call the “dungeon” — and from that moment I was captivated. Standing in that space, watching the craft up close, I felt something click. It reminded me of the joy I had felt creating jewellery as a child, and I knew I had found my path again.
After leaving my BSc studies, I dedicated myself to building a portfolio and was accepted into the Visual Arts Department at Stellenbosch University, where I majored in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing and graduated in 2022. What began as childhood wonder has since grown into my craft, my career, and my greatest passion.
Our Craft
At Nélané, our craft is rooted in contemporary design, handcraftsmanship, and collaboration. Every piece is designed and made by hand, whether it’s part of my own line or inspired by the people and stories around me. What sets us apart is the way each creation merges my design vision with the unique style and identity of the wearer, resulting in jewellery that is both authentically Nélané and entirely one of a kind. No two pieces are ever the same, because no two stories are.
